Preliminary Statement on the 10th Parliamentary Election 'January-2014

Election Working Group (EWG) observers recorded voter turnout figures at three points throughout the day, 10:00am, 12:30pm, and 4:00pm (i.e. at the close of polls). As recorded from the polling personnel at the observed stations, average voter turnout was 30.1 %, with female turnout (31.2%) slightly higher than male turnout (28.9%). Voter turnout varied across constituencies, with the lowest recorded turnout at 6.4% (Dhaka-17) and highest turnout at 74.0% (Gopalganj-1). The aggregated average turn out figures are given in the above table.

People Against Violence in Elections and BRIDGE showcase

As part of capacity building of EWG Program Managers and EWG secretariat staff members, a 2-day workshop on election violence was held on 7-8 May 2014. The workshop “People Against Violence in Elections and BRIDGE-Showcase” was jointly organized by Election Working Group and International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) with support from The Asia Foundation (TAF). The objective of the workshop was to build up a resource pool with highly efficient and experienced professionals who will be contributing in the EWG trainings in future. Twenty participants attended the workshop which was facilitated by Alistair Legge, A level BRIDGE facilitator; currently working as the Chief of Party, IFES Bangladesh. Hasan M. Mazumdar, Country Representative of TAF Bangladesh attended the closing session and distributed the certificate among the participants.
